Member Protection
Shelly Beach Surf Life Saving Club is committed to providing a safe, fair and inclusive environment for all our members, especially children and young people. Every member, volunteer, parent and visitor has the right to be treated with respect and to enjoy surf lifesaving free from harassment, discrimination and abuse.
On this page you’ll find our Member Protection and Child Safety policies, our Child Safe Commitment Statement, who to contact, and how to raise a Child Safe Matter or make a complaint.
Member protection commitment statement
SLSC is committed to the protection, welfare and well-being of all members and is dedicated to providing a positive and safe environment in line with the SLSA Member Protection Policy and SLSA Child Safe Policy.
We take an inclusive approach, dedicated to being open to all members of the Australian community and providing a safe environment, ensuring all members are treated with respect and dignity and are protected from discrimination, harassment and abuse.
Our aim is to create a safe and nurturing environment for all members participating in surf lifesaving by following the Member Protection Code of Conduct.
Our Member Protection Team
Our club has dedicated volunteers who look after member protection practices and issues.
Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) & Child Safe Coordinator: Kim Burns

Complaints: president@shellybeachsurfclub.com.au
Kim is the first point of contact if you have a question or concern. If you’d prefer to speak to someone else, please contact the Club President.
Working With Children Check
All Age Managers, Age Assistants, Water Safety and anyone in a child related role must hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC). It’s free for volunteers and you can apply through Service NSW.
Once you have your number, please email it to office@shellybeachsurfclub.com.au so we can verify it.
The club takes child protection seriously. Any form of child abuse will not be tolerated, and serious matters will be reported to the authorities.
