Nipper Education

Our Nipper program provides the foundation for all our junior members to develop crucial water and beach safety skills. As they progress through the age groups the skills and knowledge learnt are consistently built upon so that they can look after themselves and help others in dangers in around the coastline.

Stage 1

Stage 1 builds foundational knowledge to our youngest members through active learning and fun games.

Stage 2

Stage 2 transitions to lifesaving awareness and recognition skills whilst introducing basic water rescue and first aid training.

Stage 3

Stage 3 furthers enhances the lifesaving capabilities in the water and in first aid through practical scenarios and pathway discovery within Surf Life Saving.

U14 Surf Rescue Certificate

The Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC) combines the theoretical and practical knowledge gained through nippers into a nationally recognised aquatic rescue award which signifies the individual's ability to provide advice in water safety and render assistance in an emergency situation.

Surf Rescue Certificate

The Surf Rescue Certificate is the introduction award to public water safety. It teaches the participant how to recognise and respond to aquatic rescues.

Water Safety

Each season to keep our members safe we require the assistance of the water safety team. This team is a crucial element to all nipper activities ensuring our nippers are kept safe in the water and continue to learn and build their confidence in the water.

Bronze Medallion

This nationally recognised award is the benchmark award for aquatic rescue in Australia. It provides our Lifesavers with the skills and knowledge to anticipate and respond to rescues incidents.

Advanced Lifesaving Awards

IRB Crew

This awards is the start of the powercraft pathway enabling you to ride and operate as a crew person in the IRB

IRB Drivers

Gaining your driver's license teaches you to skillfully navigate the surf break using the IRB.

Advanced Resucitation

This award is the next award in following the First Aid pathway within our Surf Life Saving. It teaches you how to competently use a defibrillator and deliver oxygen in an emergency situations.

Beach Management (Patrol Captain)

As a Patrol Captain you will be in charge of all beach activities and coordinating any emergency situation. Using the skills and knowledge of your patrol members you will keep the public safe whilst they enjoy their time at the beach.

Rescue Water Craft Operator

The Rescue Water Craft Operator Certificate is the highest power craft award offered on the Central Coast. Holders of this award join the Central Coast Support Operations Team and are rostered to RWC patrols throughout the season which are additional to your regular beach patrols.

Gold Medallion

The Gold Medallion is the highest rescue award any member can achieve. The course requires candidates to demonstrate excellent physical fitness and advanced lifesaving skills through a series of tests.

Trainers, Assessors and Facilitators

Age Managers

As an Age Manager you are at the front line of teaching and developing our next generation of lifesavers. As a new Age Manger you will be inducted and shown the course material for your age group at the start of the season and supported by the education and JAC leadership team throughout the season.

Trainers

As a Trainer you will be joining our passionate team of educators who ensures all our members are highly trained and competent when on patrol.

Assessors

Assessor’s play a crucial role in our education program ensuring all Surf Life Saving members are competent and proficient in their awards.

Facilitators

As a facilitator you will be working closely with trainiers and assessors to train and develop members in various courses. This role acts as an independent party to ensure each course delivered to the highest standard.
